Odessa- The Ector County Independent School District is teaming up with a marketing firm to improve communication.

The board unanimously approved the 100-thousand dollar contract with hunt marketing last week.

"We felt that it was money going to be well spent, to help provide better communication," said ECISD’s Board of Trustees President Ray Beaty.

Officials say it's a response to district’s strategic plan.

"There's no shortage of means of communication, and there’s' no shortage of communication coming out of the school district, and yet we're constantly told we do a terrible job of communicating with the public," said Mike Adkins, director of community relations for the ECISD.

Community members are divided on the cost--though $100,000 is a small percentage of the board's $180 million budget.

Residents of the community weighed in both in-person and online. “I think it’s a good idea,” said one Odessa woman.

Another disagreed—“I think that they would be better spent using their money elsewhere,” said Kathy Golson.

Details about the marketing plan haven't been set in stone--just that the board wants to promote good news from the district's schools.

"We're going to give it a try and see what happens," Adkins said.
