ODESSA, TX -. Odessa fire officials will have a new training class on structural and wild fire fighting techniques with the National Fire Academy in January.

A heavy rain followed by a season of cold weather is a combination for a heavy burn season. Currently the Odessa fire department is preparing now to battle possible flames.

They say that wild fires can move up to 6 football fields a minute in high winds.

Burn season could start as early as February this year. The class will teach firefighters how to better fight wild fires in a structural area.
