ODESSA, TX - Today west Texas parents, took part in a worldwide event, by coming gathering to remember the lives of their children who've died.

"It's that little light ... the light of our loved one. It still lives on in our hearts and you know you can't see it anymore but we all feel it," said Denise Garza, Mother of Fallen War Hero.

The candle lighting is a part of a worldwide event by The Compassionate Friends.

For many parents, they said during the holiday season the grief of losing their child affects them the most.

"I'll always be missing a part of myself," said Shannon Teague, mother of deceased 22-year-old

But this ceremony brings an opportunity for healing.

“It helps me because I realize that I'm not the only one going through it and that together we have good days and bad days. So we can help each other through it,” said Teague.

For those who didn't know the deceased, it creates memories to honor and learn more of those that have passed on.

"I'm going to light a candle for my daddy," said 3-year-old Kaiden Dell Teague.

The Compassionate Friends also has a support meeting to handle grief. For more information on the group, contact them at (432) 694-4157.
