Midland, TX -An alternative program will be moving into a former early childhood center in Midland, but not without a fight from angry residents in the neighborhood.

Midland ISD trustees unanimously approved to move the Midland Alternative Program into the former West Early Childhood Center in the southwest Midland museum district neighborhood.

People that live in the neighborhood have voiced opposition to MAP moving in the campus

They worry the change will decrease property values, hurt the image of their historic neighborhood and they also fear for their own safety.

Superintendent Dr. Ryder Warren says the MAP program is expanding and this is the most efficient way to give them more space and utilize the former West building.

He is also planning to place a police officer on campus during the school day to help ease homeowners safety concerns.
