WEST ODESSA, TX – 6 Cavazos Elementary School students are bitten by a dog in their school yard. The school day at Cavazos Elementary School didn't start pleasant.

"There was a dog across the street then it started coming at the kids and bite one and so they kept us inside for the whole day,” said Josh Tijerina, 5th. Grader, Cavazos Elementary School.

Two students bit by what witnesses say was a German Sheppard. Just a few hours later, the same dog and another returned and four more students were bit.

"From what I understood, they responded in the morning but couldn't find any dogs then came back for the second one and did," said Mike Adkins, ECISD Communications Director.

According to Odessa Animal Control all six children identified one of the dogs as the attacker. Animal Control says the dog was euthanized and the dog and has been sent for testing. Police are still looking for the dog's owner.

Ector County ISD officials say the incident is rare but they are looking into preventative measures.

"We'll certainly take it seriously and keep our eye on it and looking at those gates maybe we need to close off the openings, that's something we're looking at right now," said Adkins.

Odessa Police officials tell us the student's injuries were minor.
