WEST TEXAS - We're still feeling the effects of last week's heavy rainfall and now one of our biggest pests is making a massive return, bringing a renewed threat of West Nile Virus.
"The peak season for mosquitoes is when we get rain," said Burr Williams, Founder, Sibley Nature Center.
Which is something we've had a lot of lately and with more on the way, concerns over West Nile are growing.
Experts recommend you do all you can to avoid standing water, where mosquitoes lay their eggs.
"Make sure you don't have something that is able to collect a bunch of water, the main time to be worried is in the evening, a mosquito is not gonna come out when it's below about 60 degrees, so on an evening when it's nice and warm, they'll be out," said Williams.
Burr Willimas with the Sibley Nature Center says be cautious but not paranoid.
"Something like 60 percent of people don't even have symptoms and only a small percentage actually have seriously problems," said Williams.
