MONAHANS, TX - The man being held for the murders of two people in Ward County has reportedly taken his own life. The Ward County Sheriffs Office confirms that they found 28-year old Rodney Crawford dead in his cell early this morning.
Crawford was being held at the Ward County Jail for the murders of his ex girlfriend, 31-year-old Christina Stafford and 30-year-old Travis Dewitt back on September 5, 2012 in Grand Falls. Later Ward County Sheriff Mikel Strickland confirmed that Crawford was the son of a Sheriff's deputy and used a Ward County Sheriff's Office issued gun to shoot the two victims and Stafford's 8-year-old daughter. The child survived the shooting.
Despite reports that Crawford may have taken his own life, the sheriff's office can not confirm the cause of death as the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation.
