UPDATE 8:00 PM Midland Man Dead After High Speed Chase 1/15/12

A 36-year-old Midland man is dead after being shot during a high speed chase that traveled through three counties.
According to DPS Troopers, Midland Police were contacted about a check welfare/suicide suspect possibly armed.
They say Earney Lee Maker, led Midland Police, DPS Troopers and Midland County Sheriffs officers on a chase through the city of Midland, Midland County, Ector County and then into Andrews County.
Troopers say Maker avoided spike strips and gun-shots throughout the chase.
He struck a DPS car in Andrews before lawmen opened fire.
Maker was taken to Permian Regional Hospital in Andrews, where he later died.
Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.

The following is a press release from the Texas Department of Transportation:
South Mustang Drive and 385 in Andrews closed for next several hours due to shooting and wreck. Crime scene technicians working scene. May be closed 12 hours or more.
CBS 7 has confirmed with Midland DPS that there was a high speed chase that ended in Andrews.
Several viewers have called in saying that they say a dark green truck headed towards Andrews on Hwy 385 followed by a number of authority vehicles.
Little information is being given out at this time. We'll bring you updates as they become available.
