The city of Big Spring and the Texas Plains Trail Region unveiled a limited edition stamp cancellation postmark at the Big Spring Post Office.

The Texas Plains Trail Region is made up of 52 counties in the panhandle, southern plains, and norther Permian Basin regions of the state and visit one county each week to unveil a stamp cancellation.

They have been visiting those counties in alphabetical order making Howard the 28th in the series.

Officials say it is a way to promote the region for tourists at home and all over the country.

"All of these people from all over the United States, that have got these, we're hoping that they will come back. They'll go 'where is Big Spring, Texas' and then they'll look on there and come back and visit here, maybe even live. That's what my pride is, to try to get people to not only visit but to remain in these places. We just have a lot of tourist attractions for these people," said Deborah Sue McDonald, Executive Director with the Texas Plains Trail Regions.

If you didn't make it out today you can still purchase one for $3 or bring in an envelope with a stamp on it and you can get the cancellation for free.

It will be available through August 21.
