CAF Airpower Museum Opens New Exhibit 6/22/10

CAF News Release
June 22, 2010

Midland - The CAF Airpower Museum is excited to celebrate the opening of a new permanent exhibit in the main gallery.

The Wartime Sketches of Peter Hurd features 58 original World War II sketches by artist Peter Hurd.

A wine and cheese reception will be held in the museum Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 6-8 p.m. for museum and CAF members.

As one of seven American artist-correspondents sent to war by LIFE magazine, Peter Hurd painted memorable portraits, landscapes, and other scenes that became part of what LIFE called "the first full record on canvas of the U.S. at war."

Hurd was hired to sketch and paint the war, not from imagination but from the experiences of actually living and flying with soldiers in combat.

These experiences had a significant impact on the scenes he chose to depict.
