BIG SPRING - Scenic Mountain Medical Center held an open house for their Sleep Center.

The Sleep Center has actually been open for 15 months but a backlog of patients prevented a ribbon cutting until Monday afternoon.

The center focuses on diagnosing and treating sleep apnia and other sleeping disorders.

They have had so many patients that it can take several weeks before one can get in and get to bed.

Director of the Sleep Center Heath White explains how the sleep study works.

"They actually come in and they do just that, sleep. We hook you up to some monitors that monitor your eyes; they monitor your chin movement, your leg movement. Lots of people have heard of Restless Leg Syndrome, it will monitor your EEG, your heart rate, and your respiratory rate. It monitors all that stuff while you sleep."

White adds all you need to do is make an appointment at 268-4616 or talk to your doctor.

And bring your own pillow to make yourself comfortable.
