BIG SPRING - Big Spring city leaders have become the latest to sign pledges not to text and drive.
Municipal Court Judge Tim Green, Fire Chief Brian Jensen, and the CEO Of Scenic Mountan Medical Center were among several local leaders to sign the pledge.
Pledges to not text and drive have increased locally and nationally over the last year after several high profile crashes and deaths due to texting while driving.
Green says signing the pledge sets an example for the community.
"We want to be an example to the younger crowd out there that if we're willing to say 'we won't text and drive' we just want to be the example and hopefully they'll follow suit."
The city pledge was the brainchild of Debbie Jensen with Dispute Resolution.
Jensen says there will be other opportunities for leaders and citizens to sign pledges not to text and drive, including at Pops in the Park on July 3.
