Woman sentenced to 18 years for Intoxication Manslaughter crash

MIDLAND COUNTY -- A woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for an Intoxication Manslaughter crash that left one woman dead in Midland County.

Ruth Mireya Jasso pleaded guilty to Intoxication Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon counts from September 13, 2015.

On Tuesday a jury sentenced Jasso to 18 years confinement as well as a fine of $5,000 for each of her counts.

In 2015 Jasso was arrested after running a stop sign and crashing into a car killing Laura Bonilla.

Jasso was also charged with Aggravated Assault after her two children under the age of 10 were also injured in the crash.

The range for each of the offenses were 2-20 years of confinement. Jasso was eligible for probation.

The case was tried by Assistant District Attorneys Kara Latiolais and Rebecca Patterson Linehan. The defendant was represented by Luis Chavez.
