Suspect arrested in connection to West Odessa drive-by shooting that led to chase, standoff

WEST ODESSA -- A suspect has now been arrested for a drive-by shooting in West Odessa that resulted in a chase and a standoff.

According to the Ector County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Richard Wade Edwards was taken into custody at 12:30 p.m.

Edwards is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Family Violence.

On Thursday, November 30 a deputy with ECSO was responding to a civil call in West Odessa when he witnessed a drive-by shooting occur a few blocks away.

He then began pursuing the suspect, but was involved in a crash with another driver at the intersection of 26th Street and Redondo.

Both the deputy and the driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and were released the following day.

No injuries were reported in the shooting.

Later that day law enforcement officers with the sheriff's office, the Odessa Police Department, and DPS arrived at a home near Copus Avenue and Alameda Avenue and were involved in a standoff.

The house was eventually breached by SWAt, but no suspects were found inside.
