Sheriff on Crude Fest: “We have assaults, we have rapes, we have had a lot of stuff that has occurred out there.”

MIDLAND COUNTY -- The Midland County Sheriff’s Department is mounting extra patrols this weekend as crowds gather at the popular Crude Fest music festival which draws thousands to 5209 S. County Road 1270.

We asked Sheriff Gary Painter what the biggest concerns are this weekend.

"A lot of people are going to be drunk and driving." Sheriff Gary Painter tells CBS 7 News. "A lot of minors will show up and they are going to be out there to do any drinking that they can. We have a lot of trouble with minors. We have assaults, we have rapes, we have had a lot of stuff that has occurred out there. Just because they get drunk."

The organization promoting the event, Town Square Media, denies any instances of rape at past Crude Fest events.

On Friday CBS 7 plan' to take a closer look at the Sheriff’s statement and will be compiling data.
