John Bedgood, 34. (Odessa Police Department)

ODESSA -- A man has been arrested after police say he tried to bribe officers to take him home instead of to jail.

John Bedgood, 34, has been charged with Bribery, a 2nd Degree Felony, and Public Intoxication, a Class C Misdemeanor.

Just after midnight on Monday officers with the Odessa Police Department were called to Basin Nights on Kermit Highway for a report of a man causing a disturbance.

When police arrived they identified the man in question as Bedgood and found him to be intoxicated.

Bedgood was then taken into custody. Police say that on the way to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center Bedgood repeatedly offered to pay the officers $700 if they took him home.

The officers told Bedgood that he would be charged if he continued with the offers but say he persisted. He was then additionally charged with bribery.
