Police: Man hit woman in the back with a baseball bat after argument

ODESSA -- A man was arrested in Odessa after allegedly hitting a woman in the back with a baseball bat.

Charles Howard, 57, has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a 2nd Degree Felony.

According to the Odessa Police Department, their officers were called out to the 1200 block of North Lee Friday night in reference to an assault involving a weapon.

Once on scene police spoke with a man, identified as Howard, and the victim, a 39-year-old woman. The victim told police that Howard had struck her in the back three times with a baseball bat after the two had gotten into an argument.

Officers on scene were able to find a baseball bat behind a door.

A witness reported to officers that they had heard screaming before seeing Howard putting the baseball bat down and the victim lying down.

According to OPD, Howard admitted to the officers that he had struck the victim multiple times with a bat.

Based on the facts and circumstances Howard was charged and arrested before being transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
