ODESSA -- A man has been arrested in Odessa after allegedly trying to run over a police officer with a stolen vehicle.

Matthew Head, 30, has been charged and arrested for Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, a 2nd Degree Felony, Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle, a State Jail Felony, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a State Jail Felony, and for two misdemeanor warrants.

According to the Odessa Police Department, their officers patrolling the area of 42nd Street and Grandview on Wednesday night were flagged down for a report of a theft at Walgreens.

The officers then confronted a suspect, identified as Head, who was sitting in a green Ford Ranger in the parking lot.

When the officers tried to detain Head he put the truck in reverse, allegedly almost hitting an officer with the driver-side door and almost running over one of the officer's feet.

He then drove away before crashing in an alley in the 1600 block of Boise Drive. Head fled the scene on foot but was eventually caught in the 5400 block of Devonian.

Following his capture Head reportedly told officers that he had taken the Ford Ranger without the owner's consent.

Head was then charged and arrested accordingly.
