Police: Intoxicated man arrested after confronting officers with shotgun

ODESSA -- Odessa police arrested a man after he confronted Odessa police officers with a shotgun.

According to Odessa police, while officers were leaving briefing and exiting the west doors of the Odessa Police Department, they observed a Dodge Journey pull into the sally port.

That is when 38-year-old Nicolas Luna Lopez began to shout out the window at officers before exiting the vehicle.

Officers immediately observed that the shotgun was within one foot of his right hand.

Lopez began reaching for the shotgun and officers immediately detained him.

They then retrieved the loaded shotgun from the vehicle.

Officers found Lopez to be intoxicated on a substance other than alcohol and he later admitted that he had just smoked methamphetamine.

Investigation revealed that Lopez had a parole violation warrant and that he was a convicted felon.

Lopez was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, prohibited weapon, public intoxication, and parole violation warrant.
