MIDLAND -- A convicted felon in Midland was arrested after police say he was found to be loading a firearm magazine miles away from a job he had been fired from.

According to the Midland Police Department, Kenneth Ozzo Burt has been arrested on federal weapons charges.

On January 19, Officer Zarate with MPD was on duty at the Midland International Air and Space Port when he saw a driver parked in a restricted area.

As Officer Zarate approached the vehicle the driver was unaware of his presence and was allegedly loading a firearm magazine.

The driver was then identified as Burt who was charged and arrested.

An investigation of the case revealed that Burt had recently been fired from a local oil and gas company located only a few miles away from where he was arrested.

MPD states that Burt had possibly been preparing to return to the company if he hadn't been stopped by Officer Zarate.

"MPD commends the officers involved for their investigative instinct and quick assessment of the situation," The Midland Police Department shared in a statement.
