Permian Basin police warning of suspect following victims from banks

MIDLAND/ODESSA -- Both the Midland and Odessa Police Departments are warning of a recent trend of motor vehicle burglaries of victims who recently visited a bank.

According to MPD and OPD, both departments have received several reports of motor vehicle burglaries that happen shortly after the victims visit a bank.

Detectives with both departments believe that a suspect is waiting in his vehicle in bank parking lots and following victims who've just withdrawn money to their next destination.

The suspect has reportedly burglarized vehicles in parking lots, but there have been no reports of the suspect following victims back to their home. He reportedly breaks car windows in the middle of the day to reach envelopes, instead of just stealing them from unlocked vehicles.

According to MPD & OPD the suspect reportedly drives a black Kia Sportage, and the banks that have been targeted so far are located along major roadways.

Police urge that anyone who visits a bank place any money envelopes out of sight and to keep the envelope and money with them at all times.

Anyone who notices suspicious activities or has information on the suspect in the case is urged to contact the Midland Crime Stoppers at (432) 694-TIPS or the Odessa Crime Stoppers at (432) 333-TIPS.
