BIG SPRING -- Patriotism was the theme of this Independence Day Eve at the Comanche Trail Park, and for Debbye ValVerde, she says it’s important to realize the true meaning of why we’re out here.

"It means that we get to honor our vets,” ValVerde said. “Those that have, of course, served, and those that are still serving."

Congressman Jodey Arrington brought his family to this Fourth of July event. He was praising Big Spring, saying that:

"Big Spring's the capital of West Texas."

A night full of festive foods and music, and the congressman says it’s important to share with his children what the true meaning of why we wear red, white, and blue.

“I’m in a celebratory mood, and I’m very grateful, but I’m thinking about all the sacrifices; all the lives that have been lost for the sake of our freedom,” said Congressman Arrington.

"God Bless America, and thank you to our troops." Concluded ValVerde.
