Odessa Police establish traffic 'Safe Zones' ahead of first week of school

ODESSA -- The Odessa Police Department announced Friday that they will be establishing "Safe Zones", areas in which traffic enforcement will be increased, at the 1400 block of Golder Avenue and the 1800 block of East 42nd Street.

These Safe Zones will be in effect for the week of August 22nd as school begins. OPD will also be focusing on all school zones within the city limits.

Specifically, Odessa Police tells drivers not only to obey traffic laws but also focus on red lights, stop signs, speeding and other moving violations.

Police hope the zones will reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities as well as reinforce good driving behavior.
