Raul Romo, 20, has been charged with Murder, a 1st Degree Felony.

Brenda Valdivia, 37, has been charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a 3rd Degree Felony.

According to the Big Spring Police Department, their officers responded to the 700 block of Abrams on Friday morning for a call of an unattended death.

At the scene officers found 47-year-old Jaime Barboza with a gunshot wound to the head.

An investigation of the scene led authorities to identify the suspects in the case as Barboza's girlfriend, Valdivia, and her son Romo.

Arrest warrants were issued for both Valdivia and Romo on Tuesday and they were arrested shortly after.

Police believe that both Valdivia and Romo were at Barboza's apartment on Wednesday, February 21 when an argument broke out.

According to BSPD, the altercation escalated when Romo brought out a gun and shot Barboza in the head.

Valdivia and Romo are then believed to have left the home and hid the handgun. Police say they have recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
