MIDLAND -- A Midland veteran and former police officer received the surprise of a lifetime Wednesday.
Hundreds of people gathered at the site of a brand new home that will soon belong to Sergeant Jake Churchwell.
Churchwell was selected to receive the mortgage-free, custom-built home through a national organization called Operation Finally Home, which equips veterans who've been severely wounded with an accessible home.
"The home will be fitted for Jake's needs - A place where accessibility is number one for him and his family. We can't imagine all the issues that come up living like Jake has to live."
Churchwell was injured in a crash in 2016 during a high-speed chase while he was serving as an officer with the Midland Police Department.
Tune in to CBS 7 News tonight as we meet the Churchwell family and learn more about the sacrifice Jake made on behalf of his country and this community.
