Midland leaders passed the new ordinance last month.

Every week CBS 7 and Southwest 66 Credit Union recognize one person from the community in our segment called "Hometown Hero's."

This week, Midland city leaders have been donned as heroes for putting Midlanders safety as top priority.

This new ordinance keeps driver's phones locked and put away.

City council members say this ordinance keeps drivers safe.

That's why they decided something needed to be done.

Their call for safety is in the form of an ordinance, outlawing texting and driving.

Council members say when it comes to making decisions for Midland, safety is always top priority.
