MIDLAND -- Midland College held a ribbon cutting Monday morning for its fifth-annual See MC/Sí MC event.
The event, which will be held on Saturday, April 8, focuses on the importance of enhancing a "college-going" culture in West Texas.
“We want to take the intimidation out of attending college,” said event coordinator Alfredo Chaparro, MC director of Community Services in a release. “Our theme this year is ‘Careers.’ We will focus on careers that are in high-demand not only in the Permian Basin, but throughout Texas. We want to show how everyone can achieve his/her career goal through a college education. On Saturday, we invite families to explore the opportunities available at Midland College and discover the advantages that a college education provides.”
Students and their parents attending the event will be able to hear about various careers including becoming a doctor, nurse, teacher and more.
The event will include music, children's activities, presentations, campus tours and prize giveaways including a laptop.
Free hamburgers will also be provided to the first 2,000 individuals.
