On Friday, it was announced that the jury had sentenced Esparza to 30 years in prison.
On July 21, deputies with the Ector County Sheriff's Office responded to the 150 block of South Hasty for a report of a stabbing victim.
When deputies arrived on scene they found a victim, 23-year-old Eddie Olivas laying outside of a home with a stab wound to the chest.
He was taken to Medical Center Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses on scene told deputies that there had been a fight between two women at the location which Olivas attempted to break up. It was then that the suspect, identified as Esparza, began fighting Olivas before stabbing him.
Esparza was eventually found and arrested.
