ECSO: Man arrested after breaking into Ector County storage building

ECTOR COUNTY -- A man was arrested after he was found hiding behind a picture in a storage building, according to the Ector County Sheriff's Office.

David Mack Smith, 26, has been charged and arrested for Burglary of a Building, a State Jail Felony.

According to the ECSO, deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of West 54th Street Tuesday morning for a call of a person inside of the building.

When deputies arrived on scene they entered the building, finding a man on his knees hiding behind a picture.The man, identified as Smith, was found to have a DVD, work gloves, and a small wallet photo album of the building owner's children in his possession, according to ECSO.

A flip phone, speakers, portable heater, and a camouflage backpack were found outside and were discovered to have been placed there by Smith.

According to ECSO Smith told deputies that he had broken into the building because he was cold and needed a place to sleep, though deputies found him wearing dark clothing and a mask to conceal his identity as well as a flashlight.

Smith was then arrested and charged at the scene.
