MIDLAND -- MISD has released the STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readniness) results of fifth and eighth-grade students.
According to MISD, the results for the 2016-2017 school year show improvements in five of the six tests in comparison to the 2015-2016 school year.
Among the improvements were:
-Math results showing gains ranging from 7% to 18% for both grade levels in English students and grade five Spanish.
-Grade five reading results for students testing in English at a static 62% compared to last school year
-Grade five results for students tested in Spanish reading showing a double digit gain of 18% in both reading and math
The only area that saw a drop in results was grade five reading, according to MISD.
MISD states that when compared to performance with Region 18 overall results their district outperformed in each of the areas.
“The results are encouraging and all the credit goes to the hard work in the classroom. We are optimistic about our most recent results and look forward to additional gains with the second administration,” commented Patrick Jones, Chief Academic Officer in a press release.
