TEXAS -- A popular singer is being recognized for his work helping the state of Texas recover from a tragic storm.

"King of Country Music" George Strait has been named as the 2018 Texan of the Year for his fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey relief.

Strait is scheduled to receive his award on Thursday, March 22 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center.

According to a release, Strait will be joining the ranks of past Texans of the Year including former Presidents, governors, and business icons.

The annual award is presented by the Texas Legislative Conference.

"No one has done more than George Strait to raise awareness and funds for the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. He put his well-earned reputation on the line and asked not only his fellow Texans to step up, but all Americans. And they have," said Conference Chair Doug Miller, former Texas State Representative.

Strait's fundraising efforts have reportedly raised more than $50 million so far.
