QUINTON, Okla. (AP) — Officials say the fire is out at a drilling rig that exploded in eastern Oklahoma. Five rig workers are missing.
A statement from McAlester-Pittsburg County Emergency Management said Monday night the fire at the well head and surrounding areas is out, but fire crews remain at the scene in case the rig reignites. No access is allowed to the rig.
Houston-based Patterson-UTI Energy Inc. has been operating the well for Oklahoma City-based Red Mountain Operating. In a statement Monday, Patterson-UTI said some of its employees "are unaccounted for at this time" and that the cause of the fire remains unknown.
