Andrews aims to become oilfield capital of Texas

ANDREWS -- Both the city and county of Andrews are teaming up to be declared the oilfield capital of Texas.

The Executive Director of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce tells CBS 7 that Andrews is third in the state for oil production and has produced more than three billion barrels of oil.

"Whether it be for the security of our nation, or economic development or education, the oil from Andrews has played a big role," Wallace said.

Officials have already sent the resolution to Senator Kel Seliger and State Representative Brooks Landgraf.

The Andrews Chamber of Commerce says the city currently has 365 oilfields, which puts them at 191 more than the top producing country.

They hope the resolution will get passed in the next Legislative session.
