Permian Basin -- You may have thought you were able to narrowly escape the flu this year, but one local Doctor says were having a late flu season and it's hitting the Permian Basin hard.
Dr. Richard Bartlett in Midland said the number of patients he's been seeing with the flu is increasing every day.
State wide Texas has seen a steady increase in the last three weeks, that's according to the CDC.
Bartlett says if you think you have the flu or if you have the signs and symptoms it's very important to get treated immediately.
“Many years in the past we've had up to 36 thousand people die in a year from the flu epidemic,” said Dr. Bartlett.
Dr. Bartlett says with the recent cases we're back on track with the flu season.
He also says smokers are at an increased risk of getting the flu.
